Summer Schedules & Compliance: What Employers Should Know
Summer flexibility can boost morale—but only with the right policies in place. Want help reviewing summer HR practices? Let’s update your policies.
Summer brings shifts in operations—from time-off requests to flexible hours. But even minor changes can introduce risk.
Here’s what to watch for:
☀️ Overtime & Exempt Status – Don’t let flexible duties cross classification lines
☀️ PTO Policies – Set clear expectations around time-off
☀️ Remote Work Requests – Confirm policies are up to date and enforced consistently
☀️ Outdoor Safety – For field workers, heat illness prevention is critical

Redefining “Nice”: Embracing Conflict to Strengthen Teams

We’ve all heard the advice: “Just be nice.” But in the workplace, “nice” often gets confused with being agreeable—avoiding disagreement to keep the peace. Ironically, this version of nice can stall trust, slow innovation, and bury insight.
Healthy conflict matters. It encourages diverse perspectives, surfaces risks early, and strengthens team accountability.
Here are five powerful techniques for sharing your insight without creating friction:
1. Use “and” instead of “but”
“You think we need funds for the customer event, and I’m concerned we’ll need that money for training.”
This keeps the conversation collaborative instead of oppositional.
2. Use hypotheticals
“What if we tried this approach instead?”
Hypotheticals allow you to suggest alternatives without direct contradiction.
3. Ask about the impact
“How do you see this affecting our long-term goals?”
Shifting the focus to outcomes creates space for shared understanding.
4. Address the underlying issue
Rather than debating the details, focus on the “why” behind a suggestion. This helps uncover alignment.
5. Ask for help
“Can you walk me through your thinking?”
Leading with curiosity invites openness and shared problem-solving.
