HR UPDATE – Are You Compliant?

FLSA Salary Threshold Increase

Hey Employers,

Just a quick reminder that the minimum salary threshold for exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) increased on July 1st, 2024.  The new minimum is $844 per week (or $43,888 annually).

Are you in compliance? If you have exempt employees making less than the new minimum, you need to take action. You can either:

  • Raise their salaries to meet the new threshold
  • Reclassify them as non-exempt and pay them overtime for hours worked over 40 per week
  • Limit their hours to avoid overtime pay

Don’t forget: This is just the first of two increases. The minimum salary will increase again on January 1, 2025, to $1,128 per week ($58,656 annually). Be sure to review your payroll and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you’re following the law and avoiding potential penalties.
